Neville Anklesaria
The mysticism of the phoenix has always been something that has intrigued me. Add to this the fact that there seems to be some innate connection between Parsis and the phoenix ( You will find them on all their traditional Garo sari designs and even in Isfahan, Iran where Parsis originally came from ). Its no surprise then that I named my tattoo parlour “Silver Phoenix”. So when a Parsi boy offers himself for a huge Phoenix full back tattoo, this is like a wish fulfilled. Neville Anklesaria is someone I have vaguely known of, from quite some time but getting to ink him gave me the opportunity to get to know him better and re-establish our links from Jamshedpur (I was very fond of his grandmother).
I had given Neville a couple of options but he picked the Phoenix design. What I love about this design is its intricate feather-work and the gorgeous head. We both agreed on doing this in black and grey with hints of colour towards the top, to depict the flames. It took us eight sessions over eight months, but finally the dream has come true. The tattoo is a fascinating mix of shades, details and parallel line work . Credit goes to Neville for bravely baring up and taking in the pain and the long hours. What we have today, is definitely one of my best tattoos and I am so happy that Neville will proudly carry it on his back for times to come
